SAORI accredited weaving instructor Yumi KeungSpecial Guest: Fung Yuen ManVillage Art Expert: Fragrant Village
This workshop will be guided by Yumi Keung, a SAORI weaving instructor recognised by SAORI International Volunteer College in Japan, and Fung Yuen Man (Ah Man), a descendant of native fishermen from Sha Tau Kok. They will blend traditional fishing net weaving techniques with straw to create unique pieces. In this workshop, participants will not only learn about this tradition and weaving craft but also create a 20cm x 20cm personalised woven artwork by hand.
Note
- - The workshop is conducted in Cantonese supplemented with English and Putonghua.
- - Workshop and market are held on the same day. Participants can take the shuttle bus arranged by #ddHK travelling between Fanling and Sha Tau Kok on the day of market.
- - Registration will begin at 10am on 12 December 2024 (Thu).
Application for Tourism Closed Area Permits
Participants need to obtain a valid Tourism Closed Area Permit before going to Sha Tau Kok to participate in this guided tour. The Tourism Closed Area Permits can be applied for through the Hong Kong Police Force “Online Applications Platform”. It takes three working days to process. Please login the platform to download the electronic permit upon approval and present it on the day of activity to police officers.

About Yumi Keung
An independent arts educator, Yumi became a certified instructor with the SAORI International Volunteer College in December 2015. She is the first individual from Hong Kong selected for an intensive training experience at the headquarters in Osaka, Japan, specializing in SAORI weaving.
About Fung Yuen Man (Ah Man)
Fung Yuen Man, a descendant of local fishermen from Sha Tau Kok, is a skilled artisan.
About Fragrant Village
Fragrant Village was founded in 2016 and mainly focuses on curating music and art projects about villages in Hong Kong inspired by the land and the villagers, aiming to invite the public to enter these villages and experience their history, culture, and ecology. Fragrant Village curated the "Village School Anthem Project" exhibition from 2021-2023 by collecting school songs of village schools and researching village school history, which reflects the context of Hong Kong's urban development, to preserve the little-known community history and use village school songs as the key to open the community and share art.
